Planning to work in Bali or elsewhere in Indonesia? To stay and work legally, foreigners need a Working Visa (KITAS/ITAS). This visa is essential for professionals, employees, and foreign experts who wish to contribute their skills while enjoying life in Indonesia.
Working Visa granted to foreign who wish to work and stay in Indonesia. They can choose from various types of work but they only can chose one position in the company depending on their qualifications. Presidential Regulation No. 20 of 2018 concerning the Usage of Foreign Workers regulates that the foreign workers can be employed for certain positions. The lists of positions available for foreign workers were regulated under various decrees of the Ministry of Manpower, where each decree referred to a specific business sector. Ministry of Manpower now issued Decree No. 228 of 2019 on Certain Positions Which May Be Occupied by Foreign Workers.
Foreigner also will get Notification or Work Permit (former IMTA) from Ministry of Manpower, the company will need to pay DKP-TKA (Development Funds in Exchange of hiring a foreign worker) advanced with amount USD 100 per month.
Once the Working Permit approved, the foreigner can apply for Working Visa and submit to the Online Immigration System. An electronic visa will be send to the company email. The foreigner can enter with this visa and Limited Stay Permit (ITAS) will be grated upon the arrival.
What is a Working Visa (KITAS/ITAS)?
A Working KITAS (Temporary Stay Permit) is the official visa for foreigners employed in Indonesia. It is usually valid for 6 to 12 months and can be extended annually.
With this visa, you can:
- Work legally for an Indonesian company or organization
- Obtain a tax number (NPWP) and comply with employment regulations
- Open bank accounts, lease property, and access local services
- Sponsor dependent visas for your spouse and children
Who Needs a Working Visa?
A Working Visa (KITAS) is required for:
- Foreigners hired by Indonesian companies
- Expatriates working in sectors approved for foreign expertise
- Company directors, managers, or technical specialists
- Employees under a valid employment contract in Indonesia
⚠️ Freelancers and remote workers earning from overseas clients should apply for a Remote Worker Visa instead.
WHAT IS THE REQUIREMENTS FOR WORKING VISA APPLICATION?
Company Document Requirement:
- Article of Association.
- Legalization of the legal entity status by the Ministry of Law and Human Rights.
- Company Tax Identification Number (NPWP).
- Business Identification Number (NIB).
- Certificate Standard (if Medium Risk Business) or Business Permit (if High Risk Business).
- Spatial Planning Approval (PKKPR).
- Environment Permit (SPPL).
- Copy color of Manpower Report and Company Welfare Report.
- Director ID card (KTP) or Local Manager ID card (KTP).
- Company current account for the last 2 (two) months.
- Copy color ID card, Photo of Local Staff as Assitent foreign worker.
- Username and password for https://tka-online.kemnaker.go.id.
- Username and password for https://evisa.imigrasi.go.id.
- Company Letter Head and Company Stamp.
Applicant Document Requirement:
- Passport valid for at least 18 (eighteen) months.
- Proof of living expenses of at least US$ 2,000 (two thousand US Dollars) or equivalent.
- Copy color of Graduated Certificate (Diploma).
- Copy color of Reference Letter.
- Email address and phone number.
- Curriculum Vitae (CV).
- Travel Itinerary.
- A recent color photograph.
- Additional for Working Visa (Working ITAS) application less than 6 months:
- Heir details for Astaka Insurance (name, address, email address and phone number)
