Residence Certificate (SKTT)
Residence Certificate (SKTT)
If you are an expatriate living in Indonesia on a KITAS (Limited Stay Permit), navigating the administrative landscape is key to a smooth stay. One of the most critical, yet often overlooked, documents is the Residence Certificate (SKTT).
What is Residence Certificate (SKTT)?
The Residence Certificate (SKTT) is an official identity document issued by the Department of Population and Civil Registration (Disdukcapil) to foreign residents. Think of it as a temporary ID card that validates your legal domicile in Indonesia. While your KITAS is your immigration permit, the SKTT is your civil registration.
Why Do You Need It?
Beyond being a legal requirement under Indonesian Law, the Residence Certificate (SKTT) is essential for several practical reasons:
- Opening Bank Accounts: Most local banks require an SKTT as proof of residence.
- Vehicle Registration: You need it to buy or register a car or motorcycle in your name.
- Driving Licenses (SIM): It is a mandatory document when applying for a local driver's license.
- Employment Compliance: Many HR departments require it to complete your professional record.
