BPJS or Badan Penyelenggara Jaminan Sosial is government institution that responsibility and provide for designed to provide social security consisting of healthcare, pensions, work injury compensation, and life insurance to Indonesian citizens. Indonesia offers two main types of BPJS programs:

BPJS Kesehatan (Health Insurance)

BPJS Kesehatan is Indonesia’s national healthcare program that provides medical coverage for residents and employees.

All companies operating in Indonesia must register their employees with BPJS Kesehatan. Employers also pay monthly contributions for their staff.

The total contribution equals 5% of the employee’s salary, which is 4% paid by the employer and  1% paid by the employee.

BPJS Ketenagakerjaan (also known as BPJAMSOSTEK) provides protection against work-related risks. For expatriates working in Bali, this is equally important and mandatory for legal employment.

The monthly contribution for BPJS Ketenagakerjaan (Social Security) should be paid by company and the employee. Amount paid is depending on the kind of protection  and employee’s salary.
